Copper Jewelry and How to Care For it!
Malachite is a green copper bearing mineral with as much as 58% copper content. Since it is copper based...it makes sense to use copper as jewelry to accompany it.
Copper is an essential mineral which has been used since ancient times for healing purposes. It's found in both plant life and in the human body.
Copper is considered a conductor of energy and moves stuck energy around thereby improving circulation and promoting release in a wholistic sense. It is also a grounding metal for the human body and spirit. It is a metal alloy with a reddish-orange color and when it tarnishes, a beautiful green patina covers the piece.
How to clean Copper Jewelry?
Occasionally, copper jewelry or the skin of its wearer can turn green. This happens when the metal interacts with sweat and is referred to as copper chelates. The green coloring on the skin comes off with soap and water, and to polish copper jewelry is all you need is an acidic item like vinegar, or Lemon and ketchup which are both excellent for cleaning copper jewelry.
Simply place the piece of jewelry in a small bowl and cover with your choice of cleaner. Let it soak for no longer than 20 minutes. If necessary, use a soft toothbrush to reach into crevices on the jewelry. Use mild soap and water to wash the acidic cleaner off the jewelry and pat dry with a soft cloth. The piece of copper jewelry should regain its shine and look new again.
